UXO contamination in the Lao PDR is as diverse as it is extensive. There are many different types and sub-types of UXO remaining in Laos, live and dangerous. Within the Sector and in broader terms, UXO is broken down into of four major categories:

- Large bombs,
- Cluster munitions and submunitions,
- Mines, and
- Other UXO.
